Birds and Beans News - May 2009

New and Returning Offerings

We are now offering Panama La Berlina estate coffee. It is balanced and interesting with a woody base layered with nutty flavours and a delicate sweetness with a touch of anise. It's the coffee of the month for May.

Our delicious Timor Maubesse is back. This year's crop is super yummy! It has an aroma of almond and honey with a toasty flavour with lovely body and a lingering sweet aftertaste.

International Migratory Bird Day Saturday May 9th

Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) with a bird walk here in South Etobicoke. The songbirds that we support with certified shade grown coffee will be returning from their wintering grounds. An experienced birder will lead the walk. We are sponsoring the event and donating prizes to make the morning more fun. The event is free to all participants. Everyone is welcome.

Experts Unite in Support of Bird Friendly® Coffee

Leading bird experts Bridget Stutchbury, Scott Weidensaul, and Kenn Kaufman, unite in their support of Bird Friendly Certified coffee. These experts agree that drinking Bird Friendly Certified coffee is an important action we can all take to preserve populations of migratory birds. In cooperation with our Birds and Beans collaborators in New England, they have been spreading the word in various talks and events in the North Eastern US and Canada recently. Check out Kenn Kaufman's blog for his discussion on the topic.

CONTACT Still Revolution

CONTACT is an annual month long festival of photography with over 1000 local, national and international artists at more than 220 venues across the Greater Toronto Area in May. Pick up a festival program at Birds and Beans and see the work of Solomon Hoasjoe. Solomon searches out natural gems in the urban environment often finding them in overlooked places between roads, in culverts and cracks in concrete. Visit the Contact website for more info.
