Sumatra Aceh view map

This coffee originates from a certified organic Fair Trade co-operative located in the Gayo Highlands of the Aceh province of Sumatra, Indonesia. Its 500 small member farms range between 1100m-1500m (3500 and 5000 ft), and grow several varietals of Arabica coffee: Bergendal, Catimor, Caturra, Sidikalang, and Typica.

Members produce 100% shade grown, certified organic Fair Trade coffee. Members include a diverse compliment ethnicities including Gayo, Javanese, Acehnese, Padang, and Batak peoples many of whom are women.

Member farms are in an environmentally sensitive region: the buffer zone to Gunung Leuser National Park, wich contains critical watershed areas and sanctuaries for endangered species such as the Sumatran tiger.

This semi-washed coffee is complex, woodsy and earthy. The aroma has an interesting and tantilizing mix of woodsy and vanilla. Try smelling the wet grounds after brewing and find chocolate and raisin. The cup is spicy towards cedar, tart, smokey and fruity. What a show off!
